Sailors enjoys Navan cruise

first_img Press Association Dermot Weld’s colt was fourth to Ebanoran at the Curragh on his sole juvenile outing, form well advertised when the John Oxx-trained winner passed the post first in the Derrinstown Derby Trial recently before being demoted. The son of Henrythenavigator only needed to be pushed out by Pat Smullen to beat Body Beautiful by a ready three and a half lengths. Sailors Swan made a successful seasonal debut when landing the Come Racing On June 14th Maiden at Navan in some style.center_img Weld said of the 11-8 favourite: “He did it well, Pat said the ground was beautiful. “The rain left it really nice, it had changed to good to firm this morning and I was a little bit worried as he likes to get his toe in, but I was happy when I walked the track that it was safe. He was fit and knew his job. “He’ll go for a handicap now and that trip is about right for him, we ran him over seven furlongs as a two-year-old and we thought we’d come back in trip with him.” Christina Simpson enjoyed a moment to remember as she rode her fist ever winner on Above The Law (16-1) in the Navan Family Day Handicap. The 20-year-old, who claims 10lb and is from Tynan in County Armagh, was in front from an early stage on the Andrew Oliver-trained gelding and did really well to keep all at bay as the challengers loomed from two out. Chillie Billie got closest but was still a length and a half down at the line. Oliver said: “That’s great. He’s been a good servant and he likes that sort of ground. We put the blinkers on as he was getting a bit clever. “It’s all about Christina, I’m delighted for her. She’s been with me three or four years, she’s great girl and a great worker. Fair play to her, she gave it a great ride.” last_img read more

Hailie Deegan wins K&N West race after spinning teammate Derek Kraus in overtime

first_imgHailie Deegan muscled her way into Victory Lane on Saturday night. The 17-year-old NASCAR prospect won the K&N Pro Series West race at Colorado National Speedway after spinning Bill McAnally Racing teammate Derek Kraus in overtime. I want to point out that Kraus punted her out of the way a couple laps previously. So in truth, Deegan just gave right back— Life is suffering (@N8TheGr8_99) June 9, 2019Didn’t wreck her tho. Had she driven to the inside of Kraus and “doored” him back & beat him to the line he’d have “had it coming”. She just flat drove over him. I’m a Deegan fan but fair is fair & eventually she’s gonna find out how it feels to the bug rather than the windshield— Allen (@seybert32) June 9, 2019Idk if you have eyes but Deegan was already to his inside before the turn and Kraus gave 0 room— Derek (@DerekPierce123) June 9, 2019The victory was Deegan’s second of the K&N West season and the third of her career. Kraus leads the series standings by 12 points over second-place Deegan, so expect the two to race each other hard a lot more. Deegan made her power move under the white flag after she and Kraus had made contact moments earlier.Full Restart. You be the judge.(Via @RacingAndStuff) #ColoradoNAPA150 pic.twitter.com/hnPMa2QW4W— Darian Gilliam (@BlackFlagMatter) June 9, 2019MORE: Deegan among those carrying torch for women in racing”In the end, Derek ran me hard there so I was going to run him hard back. In the end, that’s racing,” she said. “We’re all going for the kill, so . . . I got the win, that’s all that matters. Woo!”#KNWEST Sound 🆙 to 🔊 from your winner in Colorado after an instant classic: @HailieDeegan. 👏🏼#ColoradoNAPA150 | @cnsracing pic.twitter.com/AgNiOjRNCk— NASCAR Home Tracks (@NASCARHomeTrack) June 9, 2019Deegan elaborated while riding away from the track, saying Kraus initiated.Talk about a wild race. pic.twitter.com/416Z35MYtm— Hailie Deegan (@HailieDeegan) June 9, 2019Kraus, of course, wasn’t happy with Deegan’s move.Thank you— Derek Kraus (@derek9kraus) June 9, 2019What y’all don’t get is that she drove In 15 car lengths to deep to get to my door— Derek Kraus (@derek9kraus) June 9, 2019He also knows full well he won’t get much sympathy with Deegan being in the other car.😂😂😂 true— Derek Kraus (@derek9kraus) June 9, 2019McAnally told NASCAR.com that seeing Deegan and Kraus race for the win was “pretty special,” but he added that the wreck made the finish “bittersweet.””That’s what they’re here to do: win and develop. They’re doing a pretty good job of that,” McAnally said.Online reaction to the finish was mixed, to put it mildly. A sample:last_img read more
