first_imgSource = e-Travel Blackboard: N.J Western Australia’s tourism leaders said that $1.2 million over the next two years in additional funding would help the region develop its aviation industry through marketing in growing countries and new routes. Announced late last week, Tourism Minister Kim Hames said it was crucial the region continued to promote itself during a time with low airfares and a strong dollar.“This boost will build on the success we had with this program during 2011, which contributed to a 57.5 per cent increase in visitors from China,” Dr Hames said.According to Dr Hames, the Chinese market is one of the region’s biggest potential in tourism and was pushed further by direct flights launched late last year through China Southern Airlines. “Many Chinese visitors to WA come for business reasons,” he added.“Our target will be to build on the relationships we already have, and bring more leisure visitors to the State to enjoy our extraordinary leisure activities, wildlife and landscapes.”last_img read more
