Over half a million euro granted to Donegal Airport operations

first_imgDonegal Airport has been allocated an additional €667,900 grant towards operating costs and safety investments, it was announced this week. The grant is part of the Regional Airports Programme that supports necessary safety and security investments and activities by these airports to enable them to continue to contribute to enhanced regional connectivity.Cllr Niamh Kennedy has welcomed the news from her independent Alliance colleague Minister Shane Ross that Donegal Airport is to receive this aid. Cllr Kennedy said: “Donegal Airport remains a key part of the infrastructure of Donegal for connectivity of our tourism product as well as for business. I am delighted that this Government continues to recognise the role our Regional Airports play in this regard.”She added: “I am delighted to work with Minister Ross to further enhance this and was delighted with the allocations secured in the review of the Capital Plan.”The Review of the Capital Plan that was announced in September by the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform identified the need for continued support for this Programme. The review of the Capital Plan yielded over €17 million in additional capital funding for the Regional Airports Programme over the period 2019 to 2021, considerably in excess of the €10 million in extra funding that was originally mooted in the Programme for Government.
