first_imgCharles Harold “Charlie” Beyer, of Aurora, Indiana, passed away at the age of 94 on Saturday, January 7, 2017, in Milan, Indiana.Charlie was born September 23, 1922, in Cincinnati, OH, son of the late William Martin Beyer and Rose Jungkunz Beyer. He joined the Coast Guard after high school, spending time on both the Don Quixote and later the USS Groton. As quartermaster, Charlie’s duties were primarily the navigation of the ship as the Groton sailed the North Atlantic, sending information to allied forces helping them to navigate safely to Europe.Upon returning from the service in December 1945, Charlie earned his Pharmacy degree from the Cincinnati School of Pharmacy. After five years of working at Lilly’s Pharmacy in Cheviot, Charlie and Wilma opened Beyer’s Pharmacy in June of 1955 when they purchased Olcott’s Drug Store on Third and Main. The store moved to the State Bank building at Second & Mechanic in 1957 and eventually to 312 Third Street in 1973. Charlie worked with his sons, Dan, Mike & Jay in the family business of Beyer’s Pharmacy, retiring in the late 90’s after over 50 years of service. Charlie enjoyed the local area and people and worked long hours to ensure that he and the pharmacy contributed to the wellbeing of his customers and community. He was never too busy to talk to his customers about their health and families.Charlie enjoyed taking photographs, walking or riding the tractor around his farm, and family functions where he could play with the grandkids.Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Wilma Naegele Beyer of Aurora; children, Michael (Dee) Beyer of Aurora, Lisa Hornbach of Harrison, Jay (Diena) Beyer of Aurora, and Marty (Cheryl) Beyer of Liberty Township, OH; 14 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his five siblings; his son, Dan Beyer; and daughter, Denise Beyer.Friends may visit with family Saturday, January 14, 2017, from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, Aurora, Indiana. 
A short service will follow at 2:00pm also at the Funeral Home, with Pastor Charlie Miller officiating.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dearborn County Community Foundation Denise A.
