ELECTION 2014: BROGAN – “TOURISM INVESTMENT WILL BENEFIT US ALL”

first_imgCllr Ciaran Brogan is calling on Donegal County Council to continue to invest in the promotion and marketing of our county through Donegal Tourism Ltd. Ciaran BroganBrogan has said that investment in the tourism sector would benefit all businesses in Donegal, and said there has to be a more pro-active approach to entice more tourists to take in the stunning beauty that Donegal possesses.Brogan told Donegal Daily, “There has to be a more pro-active approach to making this county a top tourism destination. “I am calling on Fáilte Ireland and Tourism Ireland to increase their focus on our county.”The key routes that Brogan would like to see gain greater promotion stretches from Letterkenny to the New Mills area, which includes the historic Flax Mill, on to Churchill and the Gartan Outdoor Pursuits Centre. He also hopes that Fáilte Ireland focuses its attention on other landmark tourist attractions in an area the Glebe Gallery and the birthplace of St. Colmcille and the spectacular Glenveagh National Park. This route goes on to the Ards Friary, the Lurgyvale Thatched Cottage in Kilmacrenan, and Doon Well which also has huge potential. Then there is the spectacular scenery of the Atlantic Drive which is unrivalled anywhere.Brogan added, “I was delighted that the County Council was very active in sourcing the funding to open the Fanad Lighthouse to the public which is a magnificent facility to have and, again, can be a major tourism attraction.Brogan also feels that investment must also go into promoting the Knockalla Coast Road, yet another jewel in our crown, and the seaside resort of Rathmullan, along with the Georgian town of Ramelton.Brogan continued, “International tourism also thrives through the sport of golf and we have some of the best courses in the world.“We have the parkland course in Letterkenny and world class links facilities at Portsalon and Rosapenna. “The recently acquired St. Patrick’s golf course in Carrigart will help develop the Rosapenna complex into one of the worlds greatest golf destinations.“I would also urge investment in the development of green-ways for cycling and walking pursuits on those stretches where once the old railway systems ran – for example, the Glenswilly to Termon route should be developed as a priority facility.Brogan concluded, “We cannot sit back and expect tourists to come flocking to Donegal without playing our part, and I will be pushing for further investment in the promotion and marketing of our county and its facilities.ELECTION 2014: BROGAN – “TOURISM INVESTMENT WILL BENEFIT US ALL” was last modified: May 21st, 2014 by John2Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:Ciaran BroganElection 2014:newsPoliticslast_img
