Canadas wealthiest – the Top 100 – announced Thursday

TORONTO, Ont — Canadian Business announced the top 100 wealthiest Canadians, Thursday, many of which saw their net worth grow this year. The magazine said the Rich 100 broke a number of their own records, including the collective net worth, which is now above $200-billion. Eighty-six of the 100 individuals and families saw their net worth rise this year, with the remaining 14 per cent experiencing declines. The Thomson Family of Thomson Reuters fame took the top spot with a net worth of $20-billion, down 5.7 per cent over the year, Galen Weston of George Weston Limited, Loblaws and Holt Renfrew stood second with $8.2-billion, while the Irving Family of New Brunswick ranked third with $8-billion and the Rogers Family fell into fourth with $6.4-billion. The founder of Lululemon made the biggest move in the top 10 with a net gain of 23-percent to $3.5-billion. Meanwhile, the number of billionaires on the list increased to 69.
